Golden Shoe contenders

The Golden Shoe (or Golden Boot) is an annual association football award presented to the leading goalscorer in league matches across Europe.

Some key facts about the Golden Shoe:

  •  It is awarded by European Sports Media, an association of sports journalists and publications.
  • The winner is determined by calculating a coefficient scored by multiplying the number of goals scored by the league coefficient. This takes into account the strength of each league.
  • Only goals scored in a league’s top division count towards the Golden Shoe. You can bet on them with  Betpawa UG login Uganda. Goals scored in cups or Europe do not count.
  • The first Golden Shoe was awarded in the 1967-68 season, with Eusebio its inaugural winner after scoring 42 goals for Benfica.

So in summary, it is the award given to the top goalscorer in European league football each season, weighted for the strength of each league. Claiming it is a huge achievement for a striker. The following players are the most realistic contenders for the award this season.

6. Jude Bellingham – 8

The young Englishman has made a superb start to life in La Liga with Real Madrid. He’s scored in his first four league games, matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s record.

Bellingham failed to score as Madrid came from behind to beat Sociedad, but he looks like a veteran already at just 20 years old. A frightening midfield talent.

5. Kylian Mbappe – 8

Now PSG’s main man after Messi’s departure, Mbappe has started this season on fire. With 8 goals in 8 games, he’s on track to smash his career high of 33 league goals.

Mbappe has surprisingly only passed 30 goals once for PSG despite his reputation. But this could be the year his numbers explode in Messi’s absence. The Golden Boot is in his sights.

4. Erling Haaland – 9

No surprises here as Haaland continues his goal-a-game form for Man City. With 9 goals in 9 Premier League games, he leads the scoring charts.

After winning last season’s Golden Boot, the Norwegian looks set to retain it comfortably. He is simply a goal machine.

3. Harry Kane – 9

Kane has taken the Bundesliga by storm with Bayern Munich. With Lewandowski gone, the England captain could challenge his 40-goal season record.

With 9 goals already, Kane is thriving in Nagelsmann’s attack. A couple of injury-hit years are behind him now.

2. Lautaro Martinez – 11

With Lukaku and Messi gone, Martinez has become Inter’s attacking spearhead. He already has an astonishing 11 goals in just 8 games across all competitions.

Martinez is well on course to smash his personal best of 21 goals last season. If he maintains this form, Serie A’s top scorer prize is his.

1. Serhou Guirassy – 14

The Guinea international has been a revelation since joining Stuttgart. He scored 20 goals on loan last season, but has exploded this term with 14 goals in just 8 games.

Guirassy’s lethal form has powered Stuttgart to second in the Bundesliga ahead of Bayern. Can he keep this up and fire them to an unlikely title?
